Welcome! We’re really glad you’re here
If you’re curious about martial arts and thinking of popping down to Nam Yang, we would love to welcome you to our club. We’re an inclusive, friendly club where people of all backgrounds, abilities, ages, and experiences are encouraged to come and give it a try.
Try a Class for Free
We offer a free trial class so you can experience Nam Yang with no pressure and no obligation to become a member. Just come along, move at your own pace, and see how it feels. If after the free trial you decide it’s for you, simple pop back to our website and purchase the membership that works best for you.
Please note: Some of our sessions can get very busy, so it is mandatory to book in – we also can not let people train who are not registered on the system, so please ensure you book in before you come along.
What to Expect in Your First Class
- A warm, friendly welcome
- Clear guidance from experienced teachers
- An inclusive, non-competitive atmosphere
- Option to train at a pace that works for you.
You don’t need to be fit, flexible, confident, or experienced. Many people who train with us started out as beginners. You’ll never be pushed beyond your comfort zone, and you’re always encouraged to listen to your body. We also welcome experienced and advanced martial artists, as we pride ourselves on being a space that is accessible for all!
When booking in for your free trial you will only be able to access classes that are suitable for beginners.
Accessibility & Inclusion
We actively work to remove barriers to participation and are proud to be a Club of Sanctuary, welcoming refugees and people seeking asylum.
No one is ever turned away due to lack of funds. If cost is a concern, please talk to us — we will do our best to support you.
Ready to Give It a Go?
Please select the free trial that is correct for you (either adult or child free trial pass).
If you’re registering a child, you will need to complete the registration in their name, with their date of birth and your contact details.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear/bring to my trial class?
Please wear loose comfy clothes and if you are attending a kickboxing class and have your own boxing gloves and leg guards please bring these with you. Don’t worry if you don’t have gloves and leg guards, we have spare pairs for our trials to use.
Please note: if you do continue to train with us and are taking part in kickboxing you will need to purchase your own gloves and leg guards. We do sell equipment, but can also advise on options if you were looking to purchase elsewhere – please just speak to your instructor.
Where are you located?
We have two full time clubs – one in Brighton (off London Road) and one in Hove (on Portland Road). Once you book in you’ll receive an email confirmation that includes details on how to find us.
Please note: Google is misleading for our Brighton club, so please ensure you follow the instructions in our email confirmation.
I have a health concern/injury is this right for me?
We are able to adapt our sessions to accommodate most people but if you would like to speak to us before you pop down please send us an email.
Please ensure you inform the instructor when you arrive if you have a health concern.
I’m new to martial arts, which class is right for me?
The majority of our sessions are beginner friendly (those that aren’t suitable are clearly marked on our timetable and you are unable to book with the free trial). If you’re unsure of our various martial arts styles please head here for more information on our adult classes and head here for more information about our kids classes.
I’ve been for my free trial, how do I become a member?
It’s great to hear that you would like to be a member! We offer a variety of membership options, depending on how often you/your child would like to train. Our membership plans are rolling monthly plans that can be cancelled at any time. Please head here to see a full list of our membership options, which give you access to train at both our gyms.

Do I need to book myself/my child into every session?
Please ensure you are booking into every session. If you need to cancel a booking you can do this directly in the app or through the email confirmation you received when you booked in. As some sessions are very popular, failing to book in may mean that you are turned away if the session is full.
Do you run children’s classes all year or term time only?
We run sessions all year round (closing only during the Christmas holiday). During the half terms and summer holidays we run a reduced timetable, which requires a minimum of 3 participants booked in to go ahead.
How do I keep up to date with club news?
We send our newsletters via Glofox, which go to the email address you provide. Please do check your junk folder, as the first one often lands there.
