KICKBOXING BRIGHTON

At Nam Yang Brighton we teach three main kickboxing styles: K1, San Da and Savate:

San Da Kickboxing is a combat sport derived from Chinese Kung Fu. It is China’s premier combat sport.

It’s similar to Muay Thai, using punch kick combinations, throws, sweeps and takedowns. This is perfect for those looking to get into mixed martial arts and a great spectacle for those who enjoy watching combat sports. It allows no margin for error for the practitioner as there are so many methods of being attacked.  Many notable MMA fighters have San Da backgrounds including Zabit Magomedsharipov, Cung Li and Muslim Salikhov.

K1 is one of the most popular forms of kickboxing. It involves punches, kicks and knees. It is famous for being a fairly aggressive style and for producing some of the all time greatest kick boxers. Founded in Japan and dominated by fighters from the Netherlands, K1 is now enjoyed all over the world thanks to organisations like One FC, Glory Kickboxing and Enfusion

The UK has produced some great K1 fighters and we are lucky enough to have one of the best as our head kickboxing coach, Steve ‘The Kung Fu Kid’ Keen (featured in the video below!).

Savate is a system of kickboxing and self defence from France, know in France as ‘Savate Boxe Francais.’ Known for it’s fantastic array of kicks and intricate footwork. Savate kickboxing is famous for being an elegant style of combat and practitioners must use footwear. Nam Yang are the only club to teach Savate kickboxing on the south coast. Savate has a very logical grading system, which practitioners can progress with at their own pace; making it a great sport for self development. It’s a fast, high-octane form of kickboxing where the practitioner relies on intricate footwork and a huge array of kicking techniques. It is hard to find a system of angles and footwork to rival that of Savate.
